yediyurappa: Karnataka: I’m confident Vijayendra will get bigger role, says BS Yediyurappa | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: A day after his son was denied a ticket to contest the legislative council polls, former chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday downplayed talk of a snub from the BJP leadership.
“There is no need to attach special meaning to [BY] Vijayendra being denied a ticket to contest the MLC polls. I’m confident that Vijayendra will get a big opportunity in the future,” Yediyurappa said, insisting the party will not let down those who are capable and loyal.
“Soon there may be certain changes in the party organisation and he [Vijayendra] may be given more responsibilities,” he said.
Ignoring recommendations of the state unit to field Vijayendra for the June 3 biennial polls to seven seats, the BJP brass, hours before the deadline for nominations closed on Tuesday, announced four candidates, including former deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi. The other three are new faces.
The move is being seen in some political quarters as a setback for Yediyurappa. But the former CM preferred to look at the big picture, saying the aim is to bring the party back to power in the 2023 assembly polls. All efforts will be focused on ensuring BJP gets a clear majority, he said.
On reports that Vijayendra lost out on getting the ticket because of BJP national general secretary BL Santhosh, Yediyurappa said: “It has nothing to do with him. Such things are unnecessarily being said in the media. There is no meaning to it.”
On reports that Vijayendra would be given the ticket to contest the next assembly polls from Shikaripura, Yediyruappa’s constituency, he said, “It is too early to discuss such issues.”
