Who’s that? Just a couple of burglars
Husband-wife duo work in tandem to become a notorious
We have heard of ‘family-run’ businesses but here is a case of a ‘family-run’ burglary where a husband and wife would coordinate to steal valuables. A couple was arrested by the RT Nagar police recently for the alleged theft of 193 grams of gold
The jewellery belonged to Vijayalakshmi, a 53-year-old residing in Manjunatha layout of RT Nagar. When leaving for work around 8.30 am on September 16, she locked her house and hid the keys near the window. When she returned home at 4 pm that day, the keys were at the same place and the door was locked. But when she went inside, she saw that her gold ornaments were missing. She reported this to the RT Nagar police station suspecting theft.
The accused were interrogated and it was uncovered that the husband, who was recognised in local organisations, would go around the place as if he was looking for a rented accommodation. However, while doing so, he would spy on the potential houses that he could burgle in the night. He also identified houses where family members would keep the keys outside carelessly as the people assumed that their ‘secret’ locations could not be noticed by others. Later, his wife and he would return to these houses and while the husband would stand guard outside, the wife would enter the houses and steal the booty.
So far, six cases have been booked against them including three house thefts that were reported in RT Nagar police station which are being connected to the couple.
Cases of extortion and robbery have also been registered against the accused in Ramamurthy Nagar, Yeshwanthpur, Ashok Nagar, DJ Halli, Annapoorneshwari Nagar, Vivek Nagar, Bellandur,
The couple had previously been released on bail after being imprisoned for 15 days in March 2021 in connection with the theft of KR Puram police station.
