Undivided Dakshina Kannada region reports 310 Covid-19 cases, 7 deaths | Mangaluru News – Times of India


MANGALURU/UDUPI: The erstwhile undivided Dakshina Kannada region reported 310 fresh positive cases of Covid-19 and seven deaths on Sunday.
While Dakshina Kannada reported 193 fresh cases and five fatalities, Udupi recorded 117 new cases and two deaths. With this, DK’s Covid-19 tally increased to 10,330 and the death toll to 310. All the five patients died in DK on Sunday were suffering from various co-morbidities in addition to the virus infection.
The day also saw 164 people being discharged from hospitals and home isolation following cure. So far, 7,677 persons have been discharged, leaving the district with ,343 active cases.
Out of 193 cases of DK, 130 were reported from Mangaluru taluk followed by 21 from Bantwal, six from Puttur, 19 from Sullia and eight from Belthangady taluks. While 85 fresh cases were asymptomatic, 45 were primary/ secondary contacts, 105 had Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and eight had Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). Meanwhile, the source of infection in 34 cases is under investigation.
Out of 117 fresh cases reported in Udupi, 78 are asymptomatic and 14 have no specific contact history. The total number of cases in Udupi has increased to 10,133, including 2,648 active cases. With the discharge of 309 persons on Sunday, the total number of discharges in the district rose to 7,401. So far, 84 patients have died in Udupi due to coronavirus.
