Three students arrested for ragging in Mangaluru | Mangaluru News – Times of India


MANGALURU: The Mangaluru city police have arrested three second-year undergraduate students on the charges of ragging.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar told reporters on Friday, that nine first-year BBA students from a private college in Balmatta, were staying in a rented house at Simon Lane near Pumpwell, where the incident happened.
On Thursday, second-year students from the same college barged into their house, and threatened five students to shave their beards and moustaches, and when they returned after doing so, they were ordered to tonsure their heads by 5 pm the next day. The first-year students were reportedly abused and made to prepare tea for their seniors. They were warned not to roam around. The seniors also promised to come again to check, and said that they would not be spared in case they failed to follow their instructions.
Based on a complaint by a student, who was reportedly ragged the most, a case was registered at the Kankanady town police station, and students Mohammed Adil,20, from Kannur, who is a II BCom student, Rijin Riyas,20, from Calicut, who is a II BBA (aviation logistics) student, and Mohammed Nizamuddin BP,20, from Kannur, a II BSs (aviation travels) student, were arrested.
A case has been booked under IPC Section 448 (house trespass), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 and section 116 of the Karnataka Education Act.
