Taunted by villagers, 65-year-old Covid patient ends life in Karnataka | Bengaluru News – Times of India

CHIKKABALLAPURA: A 65-year-old man stigmatised allegedly by villagers escaped from a hospital in Chikkaballapura and hanged himself from a tree on Saturday.
Hailing from Seethramapur village in Chintamani taluk, he had accompanied a family member to a hospital in Chikkaballapura a month ago. When he returned home, villagers said he could be infected since he had gone to the town.
Unable to bear the taunts, he isolated himself and began staying in a makeshift hut near his field on the outskirts of the village. He got his swab samples tested last week but the negative result failed to convince him.
On July 29, he allegedly consumed poison and called up his son, who rushed him to Chintamani hospital. After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to the ICU of Chikkaballapura government hospital. His swab samples were collected again and he tested positive for Covid-19.
He was shifted to the Covid hospital in Chikkaballapura, but went missing on Saturday. Police later found him hanging from a tree near the town.
