Rs 10 lakh seized from Hyderabad-bound builder at KIA | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: In yet another cash seizure at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), a passenger who was attempting to conceal Rs 10 lakh in his hand luggage was intercepted on Wednesday. The income-tax department has been alerted and probe is on to ascertain source of the money.
Sources at KIA said the incident took place around 12.50pm when a passenger, later identified as Bengaluru-based builder Pitchikala Venkateswara Rao, proceeded for security check to board Air India flight AI 0568 to Hyderabad. During baggage scanning, CISF personnel realised there was something amiss about Rao’s bag and pulled it out for physical inspection. In a check carried out in Rao’s presence, they discovered bundles of Rs 2,000 notes totalling Rs 10 lakh hidden inside.
Upon enquiry, Rao claimed he owned a construction company and was carrying the cash for some business deals. However, the CISF team didn’t find his answer very convincing and alerted the I-T department, sources added.
Officer given time to prove source

The cash, gold jewellery and other valuables seized from a customs officer and his wife on Tuesday were handed over to the I-T department. Mohammed Irfan Ahmed, 35, a superintendent in Chennai Customs, and his wife were intercepted with Rs 74 lakh cash at KIA. Ahmed is said to have told investigators that he was heading to Lucknow with the money to buy real estate.
