Rain batters Bengaluru, many areas still flooded | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: Heavy rain pounded Bengaluru for the second consecutive night on Wednesday even as residents in several areas hit by Tuesday’s downpour were still picking up the pieces following the destruction.
Several pockets in Horamavu remained under more than three feet water on Thursday. Thankfully, there was no rain till late Thursday evening. But the weatherman said thundershowers are likely on Friday.
CS Patil, director of IMD, said, “Bengaluru continues to be on a yellow alert. However, rainfall will start decreasing from Saturday.” A yellow alert is when a region receives light to moderate rain with heavy showers over isolated areas. The city recorded 65.1mm rainfall from 8.30am on Wednesday to 8.30am on Thursday. Eight trees were uprooted.
HD John, who runs a small provision store in Horamavu for 25 years, said, “Every time it rains, this road gets flooded, but not to this extent. There are so many children walking in this area. What if they touch a wet electricity pole. Aren’t the authorities concerned? I have made several complaints.”
Supporters of minister Byrathi Basavaraj were seen distributing free food among residents of Cauvery Nagar and Sai Baba Layout in Horamavu on Thursday morning as the residents remained stranded in stagnant water for the second consecutive day.
The retaining wall of Vrishabhavathi river breached on Wednesday midnight, flooding houses in RR Nagar. Several families across the city will have to invest in new furniture, vehicles and electronics.

A resident of Prakruthi Meadows in Kashi Nagar, Amrutahalli, said, “Each spell of rain floods the basement of our apartment. A stormwater drain nearby is filled with sewage, which flows straight into our apartment. We have to spend a minimum of Rs 80,000 to fix our cars and Rs 7,000 on two-wheelers.”
Residents of several houses have to get their sumps and overhead tanks cleaned as the rainwater is mixed with sewage.
