Prison officials clash in Haveri sub-jail, probe on | Hubballi News – Times of India

HAVERI: The cold war between two officers in the prison department came to the fore following a clash between T B Bhajantri, jailer in Haveri sub-jail, and Pundalik Pawar, jail warden, on Monday afternoon.
Now, Bhajantri and Pundalik have taken the matter to police. Besides filing an atrocity case against Pundalik, Bhajantri has also alleged that M Marigouda, Dharwad jail superintendent, has provoked Pawar against him, leading to the clash. It is said Marigouda and Bhajantri have been at loggerheads since long.
The prisons department has deployed P Ranganath, superintendent of Shivamogga jail, to conduct a probe. He visited the Haveri sub-jail on Tuesday and spoke to the warden and the jailer separately, and also spoke to jail inmates.
According to the FIR, Pundalik was allegedly assaulted by Bhajantri on Monday afternoon at his chamber in the sub-jail — “for no reason” — with the help of jail inmate Vinayak Nuggihalli. After being admitted to the district hospital, Pundalik gave a complaint against Bhajantri under the IPC sections 323, 353, 307, 504, 506, and sub-section 34. Bhajantri too has filed a counter case against Pundalik under the same set of sections, including atrocity.
Following the incident, 30 wardens of the sub-jail have revolted against Bhajantri. On Tuesday, they aired their grouse before investigating officer Ranganath. “Bhajantri keeps harassing his subordinates for no reason. We need protection in the sub-jail,” the wardens said.
When contacted, Ranganath said,“I will conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter and submit a report to the DIG (prisons).”
