moulvis: Moulvis, pontiffs to promote Covid jabs in Haveri district | Hubballi News – Times of India

HAVERI: The district administration here has connected with moulvis and pontiffs to spread vaccine awareness in pockets of minority communities where health workers have faced resistance. Officials have held meetings with moulvis and Muslim leaders who will print handbills in Urdu and Kannada and distribute in public. Similarly, pontiffs in some religious centres will make videos on vaccine awareness.
Deputy commissioner Sanjay Shettennavar said, “Health workers and ASHA workers are facing difficulty in some areas. Especially in minority community areas, people are prejudiced against inoculation, such as in Savanur and Kanavalli. Our authorities have met mouvlis and discussed the importance of vaccines with them. We are conducting a special vaccination drive especially on Friday during prayer in mosques.”
The deputy commissioner added that after a meeting between leaders of minority communities and an assistant commissioner in the Savanur subdivision, the percentage of jabs has increased there.
“We are concentrating on other communities through pontiffs of different religious centres and will make small videos about the importance of vaccines. We have videos from Sadashiva Swamiji, from Hukkerimath, Gurusiddha Rajyogindra Swamiji of Hangal Kumarswami Matt and others and will put them on social media,” Shettennavar said.
“We have printed pamphlets in Kannada, Urdu and other languages and distributed them in public places to create awareness about the vaccine,” Dr Jayanand, the nodal officer for Covid-19 vaccination, said.
