Moral policing: Mangaluru police arrest two for abusing youth | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The city police swung into action to arrest two youths who allegedly assaulted a man late Wednesday night for speaking to women of a different faith.
The arrested men, Jayaprakash and Pruthvi, work as daily-wage employees in the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union’s plant in Kulashekara.
In his complaint, Mohammed PV, 23, from Kannur in Kerala, said the incident occurred at 10pm on October 6. Mohammed and his friend, Pranav, were on a bike, returning to their accommodation in Lalbagh after having dinner in Kankanady. On the way, they stopped near a bakery and spoke to a woman who studied in the same college as them. As they drove ahead, they saw two more women collegemates near a two-wheeler showroom and stopped to speak to them.
At this time, Mohammed said in his complaint, two men travelling on a bike pulled up. They asked Mohammed for his name and when he told them, they abused him and slapped him. When Mohammed wondered what the matter was, the duo asked him why he was talking to women from a different faith.
