Many students in Mysuru yet to renew II PU admission | Mysuru News – Times of India

MYSURU: Hundreds of students who completed I PUC in 2020-21 and were automatically promoted to second PU are yet to renew their admission, although offline classes began on January 1. The pre-university board had extended the last date of admission to February 6, but faculty fear many have dropped out for good.
In a government college in the heart of Mysuru city for example, 202 students were promoted to II PUC in April-May 2020. However, of them, only 182 have renewed their admission so far.
At Government Pre-University Girls College, People’s Park, Nazarbad, of 252 students promoted to II PUC, only 215 have renewed their admissions. Nagamma, principal, said she and other staff pooled in resources and paid fees of over 60 students besides arranging for their uniforms etc. “We are unable to contact many students who are yet to renew their admissions,” she said.
Nagamallesh, DDPU, Mysuru, said: “The last date for admission to II PUC was extended to February 6. We will get a clearer picture of how many students have dropped out only then. Students may have dropped out due to many factors.”
Principals of government PU colleges say the problem is worse in rural areas. “Many students got married when Covid-19 was at its peak,” principals. “These students are now permanently out of mainstream education. Delay in reopening hostels and confusion regarding bus passes are other factors for the mess.”
