Mangaluru: Woman arrested for killing husband with sickle | Mangaluru News – Times of India


MANGALURU: A 50-year-old woman has been arrested and booked for homicide for allegedly attacking and killing her husband with a sharp sickle, in Navoor village, Bantwal taluk.
The victim has been identified as Sesappa Poojary, 60. Police have arrested his wife Umavathi, 50, for allegedly attacking and killing him. The couple eked out a livelihood through daily wage.
According to police, the couple – both alcoholic, lived with their 26-year old daughter and used to quarrel every day after getting drunk. On the night of March 3, their fight took a violent turn.
In a drunken stupor, Umavathi attacked Sesappa with a sharp sickle. The victim received a half-inch deep injury on his left side of the forehead. Though he was bleeding profusely, they did not take him for medical treatment instead police said that the daughter was trying to stop the bleeding by applying tea powder to the wound.
On Friday evening around 7pm, he succumbed to his injuries at his house and the victim’s daughter Nayana informed jurisdictional police.
Police reached the house around 8pm. When inquired, Umavathi reportedly told the police that her husband died after accidental injuries. However, the daughter spilt the beans and narrated the entire incident to the police. Based on her complaint, the police arrested Umavathi.
A case is registered at Bantwal rural police station.
