Mangaluru: Two nabbed in temple theft cases | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The city police have arrested two men in connection with nine theft cases reported in the city and Dakshina Kannada district police limits.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar told reporters on Monday that the accused are Mohammed Suhail, 19, and Nizamuddin, 21, residents of KC Road in Talapady. The duo, part of a six-member gang, was arrested based on CCTV footage and other inputs.
With the arrest, Konaje police have solved three cases reported in their limits. On January 26, when the staff of Konaje police station were examining CCTV footage pertaining to a crime reported at Pilikoor village in Talapady, they noticed two people moving around suspiciously.
After the duo was secured and interrogated, they confessed to breaking open the hundi of Arasu Mundithaya Temple (Malar) last year, and another temple in Madur on January 15. They also admitted to stealing from the seva counter at Aiyappa Swamy Temple in Deralakatte and soiling the saffron flag at Gopalkrishna Temple in Konaje.
Police have recovered a scooter, temple hundi boxes, knife and a spanner used for the crime. They are also accused of targeting petrol bunks at Punjalkatte police station, Bantwal police station, Mangaluru Rural police station, Kankanady Town police station and two more cases in Ullal police limits.
Police said they have received important leads in connection with miscreants dropping inappropriate materials in daivastana hundis.
