Mangaluru: Man assaults three women staff at District Institute of Education and Training campus | Mangaluru News – Times of India


MANGALURU: Around 30 to 35-year-old person entered the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) campus next to the district jail between 12.45pm and 1.15pm and allegedly assaulted three women staff members with a machete on Monday.
He reportedly entered the campus asking for a teacher and saying that he had brought a gift for her.
The staff present there could not make out whom he was asking for. Following this, he assaulted the staff present there with a machete.
Three women including a first divisional assistant, a stenographer and a group D worker have sustained injuries and are being treated at private hospitals.
The injured persons have been identified as Reena, Gunavathi and Nirmala.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar along with a team of officials and Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Kumar visited the sport soon after the incident was reported.
The commissioner told reporters that the reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. “We have also visited the injured staff members who are being treated at private hospitals.”
One of them has sustained a head injury and two others have sustained injuries on their face, back and hands, but are out of danger.
“On hearing the women scream, the jail staff, police, and public rushed to their rescue. The accused has been taken to custody and is being interrogated,” he said.
Barke police station officials are investigating the matter.
