Mangaluru: Govt officer held for accepting bribe denied bail | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The third additional district and sessions court in Mangaluru on Monday refused bail to a government official who was arrested on charges of corruption.
MB Gangadhar, a land surveyor at the Mangaluru taluk office, was nabbed red-handed by sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 16,500 on February 23.
Gangadhar had allegedly sought Rs 30,000 from a complainant, who had wished to get a sketch of a property as part of the process to cut trees.
However, the complainant refused to part with such a huge sum, and the duo agreed on Rs 20,000, of which Rs 3,500 was given to the official in advance.
Gangadhar was caught red-handed by the ACB whilst receiving the remaining amount he had sought from the complainant.
Remanded in judicial custody, Gangadhar sought bail. However, judge BB Jakati, taking cognisance of the seriousness of the offence, refused bail.
Special public prosecutor KSN Rajesh said that issuing bail to the government officer prior to the completion of the investigation would send a wrong message to society.
