Kengeri Metro may be ready in June, 3 others by next year | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: In what could be a relief to commuters stuck in traffic jams, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited may commission four Phase 2 sections by next year.
They are: Mysuru Road-Kengeri, Nagasandra-Chikkabidarakallu, Whitefield-KR Puram and Bommasandra-Bommanahalli.
While Kanakapura Road (Yelachenahalli-Silk Institute) Metro was opened to the public on January 15, BMRCL sources say they are planning to open the upcoming sections in phases instead of waiting for the entire line to be completed.
Officials said they hope to commission the western extension from Mysuru Road to Kengeri (Purple Line extension) in June 2021 and further up to Challaghatta by March-April 2022. The Nagasandra-Chikkabidarakallu corridor on Tumakuru Road will be ready by August 2022. Work on this 3-km section to BIEC began in 2017 and was supposed to be completed by mid-2019 but it missed several deadlines. Statistics show the cash-strapped Simplex Infrastructures Limited has completed only 69% of the work so far.
According to BMRCL, the Whitefield-KR Puram section will be complete by December 2022. However, Byappanahalli-KR Puram will be delayed due to land acquisition issues. BMRCL is yet to get approval from the forest department for removal of trees near Benniganahalli Lake (Jyothipura), so the entire corridor (Byappanahalli-Whitefield) is likely to be ready only by 2023.
While Bommasandra-Bommanahalli on Hosur Road (Yellow Line) may be operational by December 2022, Bommanahall-RV Road will be ready by 2023. This is due to complex work, including an elevated road-cum-rail corridor and six-level infrastructure at Jayadeva junction.
Sources say another standalone line, Kalena Agrahara-Nagawara (Pink Line), has also been delayed as only 37% work has been completed so far even though it started in 2017. In January, BMRCL terminated the Simplex contract for the elevated section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere and is yet to float a tender to select a new firm. Officials said both the elevated and underground sections (Dairy Circle-Nagawara) will be operational by March 2025.
In October 2020, BMRCL finalised bids for the Silk Board-KR Puram corridor on Outer Ring Road.It has not issued a work order to firms yet and is waiting for the Centre’s clearance.
