Karnataka to get six heliports: Minister | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The tourism department will construct heliports as part of the heli-tourism project at six locations in the state.
The work on heliports will begin at Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi, Kalaburagi and Hampi, to create a heli-tourism circuit that will connect prominent tourist destinations in the state.
Preliminary meetings have already been held, and experts have visited the locations to create heliports, that will have all the necessary infrastructure, including on-site refueling facility. Heliports can also be used by people, who want to take chartered flights.
At an interaction with stakeholders in the tourism sector, organised by Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association on Saturday, tourism minister C P Yogeeshwara said that the heliports to be developed by Aerohelicon & Aviation will be a permanent base for helicopters.
“The project will help tourists, especially those from foreign countries, to visit various tourist destinations in the state, during their short stay. We have held discussions with deputy commissioners, and the process of identifying land has also commenced. The basic objective is to connect all the tourist destinations and religious shrines in the state. Developing this type of tourism circuit will attract more national and international tourists to the state,” the minister said.
The department will also initiate various other activities to attract foreign tourists. “We have to make use of the 320km coastline in the state. The central government has planned to introduce seaplanes under the Udan scheme. The Centre has approved the state’s request for starting seaplane services, to connect the state’s 320 km coastal belt. Our chief secretary has been requested to conduct a survey, identify the spots, and conduct a feasibility study for the same, under the Udan scheme. This will also help the department to connect various tourist destinations via the sea route,” he added.
