Karnataka: Professor in dock over sharing obscene clip on university group | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: An English professor from Kodagu district is in trouble for allegedly sharing two obscene clips on a social-media group set up by Mangalore University to discuss examination-related issues for undergraduate courses.
The app on Telegram has over 1,000 faculty members from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts coming under the jurisdiction of Mangalore University. Sources said the varsity will take action against the professor, who allegedly shared the video on Wednesday afternoon, after investigation.

University registrar PL Dharma told TOI they found out that the videos were uploaded from the Kodagu professor’s phone and were ascertaining if it was a deliberate act or the teacher was the victim of a phishing attack.
The registrar said a cyber expert has been asked to probe the incident. “We have gathered enough proof about it. Based on the expert’s report, we will take action against the culprit, besides seeking necessary explanation from the professor.”
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the teaching fraternity.
On rumours that the priest of a college was named in the incident, PL Dharma said the priest is innocent. “It’s not what we expect from teachers. The guilty must be punished,” said a faculty member.
