Karnataka news live: State tops country with 11.8 lakh daily Covid vaccinations

In the thick of a financial crisis and preparations ahead of the anticipated third wave of Covid-19 infections, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s “sudden” announcement that the high-speed rail project (HSRP) proposed in 2008 to link the city centre with the Kempegowda International Airport will be revived has caught his entire government off guard. The Karnataka government issued a circular on Wednesday exempting certain sections of Kerala passengers from compulsory institutional quarantine. A week after the Kar nataka gover nment allowed opening of physical classes for students of grades 9-12, several schools — most of them private — are yet to start offline classes. Karnataka on Wednesday gave 11.8 lakh Covid shots as of 10pm, the highest for a state on the day. A total of 78.3 lakh persons took the vaccine in India and Karnataka accounted for nearly 15% of it. As the overall fresh Covid cases in Karnataka continue to dip and vaccination coverage improves, the state government’s focus in the past fortnight has shifted to paediatric population with special screenings across the districts.
