MYSURU: A teenager has been detained on charges of attempting to commit bestiality and cruelty to a stray dog in west Mysuru in Karnataka after rescuing the dog.
Somashekar (19) has been accused of sexually abusing a stray dog in Gokulam on February 11.
He was detained after animal activist Harish KB lodged a complaint with VV Puram police on Monday.
The teenager has been booked under provisions of IPC 377 unnatural offences and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Harish said he received a video of a boy sexually abusing a dog in Gokulam III stage the previous week.
It was shocking that a youngster had such a mindset. Such an act could be dangerous if not dealt with immediately.
This is the first such incident coming to our notice in the recent past in Mysuru, said Harish, who is an animal welfare officer attached to People For Animals (PFA), an organization working for welfare of animals.
VV Puram police were quick to act on the complaint and detain the youth for questioning. The dog too has been rescued for examination.
According to the complaint the accused is said to have sexually abused the dog. The act has been recorded on mobile and the footage is being widely circulated on social media.
