UDUPI: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Member of Parliament Shobha Karandlaje has condemned the gang rape of a teenager under Sringeri police station limits in Chikkamagaluru district.
The second time MP said she spoke to Hakay Akshay Machindra, superintendent of police, Chikkamagaluru district regarding the gruesome incident and demanded that every single person involved be brought to justice in the earliest possible time.
Seeking protection for the survivor, Shobha while lauding the steps taken by the police in nabbing eight of the 17 accused named in the FIR after getting her admitted to the Santwana centre, said it is saddening to note that it was her own ‘stepmother’ Geetha who facilitated this crime. Police questioning Geetha for her complicity in this crime should probe her links threadbare to see if she was involved in other offenses.
Why did the girl, studying in 10th standard who was in her native place come to Sringeri? Why did Geetha misuse this teenager? Has she done similar acts that happened with the survivor with other girls that she befriended are some of the aspects of the on-going probe that the Chikkamagaluru police should probe, the MP demanded. Given the sensitivity of the case, I am in constant touch with the Chikkamagaluru SP, the MP said.
The case came to light after the Chikkamagaluru child welfare committee president Subramanya G lodged a complaint at Sringeri police station that the teenager was sexually abused. The girl was systematically abused over a five month period, he said, adding the survivor’s step mother knew of this sordid happening. The survivor, police said, was residing with her step mother ever since her mother passed away three years ago.
