Karnataka: Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry bats for Tesla in Kudla | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has written to chief minister BS Yediyurappa and Elon Musk, co-founder and CEO Tesla Inc., to consider Mangaluru as a proposed manufacturing destination for Tesla.
Since the company is in the process of conducting a ‘location search’ for setting up their operations and has hired a global consultancy firm for the same, KCCI has stated the city is one of the best suited for setting up Tesla’s proposed manufacturing plant in India and has requested the government to promote this location for the plant.
In a letter, KCCI president Isaac Vas said this region has stretches of available land in different areas for setting up the electric auto mobile plant. Presently, there is enough land available at Padubidri, Muloor and Bolkunje. The region has 21 engineering colleges, apart from ITIs and the Karnataka Polytechnic that produce several technicians/diploma holders. Tesla, which requires a skilled workforce, would easily get the necessary human resources from this region, he pointed out.
On connectivity, he said, the city has international air connectivity, an all-weather port that operates throughout the year, in addition to national highways and train connectivity. Being a crucial business hub, banking, insurance and other services are readily available at a reasonable cost.
He stressed the city has an excellent social infrastructure including suitable housing for various people, sound education system from primary to university level; good health care facilities and appropriate recreational activities like beaches, resorts and malls, apart from the cost of living in Mangaluru was reasonable as compared to metro cities and also has good utilities support.
“The KCCI will be glad to lend its helping hand in your efforts to convince Tesla to set up its auto mobile plant in Mangaluru,” said Vas. He has also written to Tesla founder Elon Musk inviting his Company to set base in Mangaluru.
