HUBBALLI: Results of the GP polls will be declared on Wednesday. Counting of votes polled in two phases in over 5,762 GPs will begin at all taluk headquarters 8am onwards. On Tuesday, villagers were seen betting on the margin of votes that will be in double digits at many wards.
Items like bikes, tractor, agricultural land and sites were on offer for bets. Annappa Pujar, a farmer in Kundagol said many youths are betting in cash. “Bets range from Rs 5,000 to 20,000 in our taluk.

Somavva, a voter in Navalgund taluk, said her husband has bet his motorcycle.
“Though I opposed a lot, he is convinced that the candidate supported by him will definitely win at least by single digit and that he will get another bike from his friend. As I was not convinced, he added that he will sell that bike and get a gold ring from that amount,” she said.
Olekar, a former GP member in Kalghatgi taluk, observed that this time betting has comparatively reduced due to the pandemic.
“Many enthusiasts used to bet tractors, agricultural land, mobile phones and other items during previous elections,” he recalled. Many have bet sponsorship of dinner, a procession involving ‘gulal’, garlands, bands etc,” said SD Baligar, arural development worker in Haveri.“
