Karnataka earmarks 230 acres around Bengaluru for cremation of Covid victims | Bengaluru News – Times of India


BENGALURU: Karnataka government on Wednesday earmarked parcels of land to the extent of 230 acres and 25 guntas at different locations around Bengaluru city to set up makeshift cremation grounds for covid deaths.
The unprecedented step comes in response to the growing case fatality rates of covid and crematoria getting overwhelmed with the bodies queuing up for cremation. Revenue additional chief secretary N Manjunath, who has been deployed to BBMP to ensure efficiency of covid management, issued an order to this effect and the land parcels have been allotted in accordance with revenue minister R Ashok’s directive that temporary cremation facilities be set up 1-2 km away from the city.
The cremation grounds will be set up in 23 locations in the villages such as Muddanapalya, Maragondanahalli, Mittasandra and Gollahalli and the sites spread across taluks of Bengaluru South, Bengaluru North, Bengaluru East and Anekal.
