Karnataka: Devil is in details of 1 billion vaccine doses, says Congress leader Siddaramaiah | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: The Karnataka Congress leadership on Friday took to social media to take a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central and state leadership for celebrating the 100 crore Covid-19 vaccine administration in the country.
In a series of tweets by Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, the former chief minister claimed that the BJP was glossing over the “devil in the details”.
“‘1 billion doses’ sounds like a fancy number but the devil is in the details. Only 29 crore people out of 139 crore are fully vaccinated, which means only about 21 per cent are fully vaccinated. What are BJP leaders celebrating for? For vaccinating just 21 per cent of the population?” questioned Siddaramaiah

He went on to add that apart from the 29 crore people who have got both their doses, only 42 crore have got a single dose. “…leaving 62 crore without any single dose of vaccine. With just 29 crore (21 per cent) people fully vaccinated, India’s position is still in danger. Are BJP leaders celebrating India’s vulnerability? India still needs about 106 crore doses to fully vaccinate the target by 31st Dec. This means 1.51 doses have to be administered every day. Is India prepared to handle this load & ensure all Indians are fully vaccinated by this year end? What say PM Narendra Modi?” questioned Siddaramaiah.

The former CM asked the PM to put on hold the celebrations and raise the bar, as there may be a further requirement of booster doses for crores of people in the country.
At the other end, KPCC president DK Shivakumar alleged that many people across the country were receiving false certificates of vaccinations and this does not reflect in the numbers.
Attaching newspaper clippings, Shivakumar said: “News from BJP ruled states of UP, Gujarat and Karnataka: 1) People receiving msgs of vaccination before actually getting the jab. 2) Family members receiving msgs of people’s vaccination, months after their death. Are fake vaccinations a deliberate policy to show big numbers?”
The BJP hit back at the bypoll rallies with both CM Bommai and former CM B S Yediyurappa claiming that the Congress is trying to politicise the vaccination landmark even as the entire world is lauding the efforts of the country and PM Modi.
“While the entire world is appreciating the efforts of the central government and PM Modi, the Congress is trying to politicise the efforts by opposing for the sake of opposing,” said Bommai in Hangal.
