Karnataka: Congress accuses BJP of politicising vaccination drives in Dakshina Kannada | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee president and MLC K Harish Kumar demanded transparency in vaccination drives being held in the district.
Alleging that vaccination drives are conducted as a political programme of the BJP, Kumar told the media on Thursday, that corporators from the Congress are not intimated when vaccination drives are planned in their wards in the Mangaluru City Corporation limits.
“There were instances of vaccination camps planned in wards of Congress corporators getting cancelled at the last minute. Health officials ask corporators to make arrangements for vaccination camps, but are cancelled citing various reasons. For example, a vaccination drive planned in Bunder ward was cancelled after all the arrangements were made. These discrepancies in vaccination have already been brought to the notice of the deputy commissioner,” Kumar said.
“The vaccination drives should be increased in Dakshina Kannada, as the district has the second highest daily Covid-19 cases, next to Bengaluru Urban. Only 14 % of the people in the age group of 18 to 44 have received both the doses of the vaccine in Dakshina Kannada. While 42 % in the age group of 45 to 60 have been inoculated fully, in the above-60 category, only 57 % have been fully vaccinated in the district. At least 90% of the targeted population should be vaccinated before a third wave of Covid-19 hits the district,” he said.
He also alleged that the labour department’s food kits meant for labourers do not reach beneficiaries, due to the interference of BJP leaders.
Similarly, the KSRTC ICU on wheels and health check-up bus sanctioned by the government is also used for political mileage by the BJP, he alleged, and warned the Congress will stage protests against these discrepancies in all taluks in the district.
Former zilla panchayat president Mamata Gatti demanded that the subsidy scheme for LPG refilling should be reintroduced for the benefit of the poor. She flayed the central government for the frequent rise in price of LPG, and demanded that petroleum products should be brought under the purview of GST.
