Karnataka: 30 transport services to go contactless from November 1 | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: The state government has decided to implement contactless transport services from November 1.
It may be recalled that the TOI had recently reported about the delay in implementing Aadhaar authentication-based contactless services.
Transport department officials said 30 transport services (see box) including learner’s licence (LL), registration of motor vehicle with fully built body, change of name in LL, change of address in LL, duplicate LL, B-extract (registration details), transfer of ownership of motor vehicle, grant of NOC/clearance certificate for vehicle, endorsement of hire-purchase agreement/hypothecation, issue of duplicate registration certificate (RC), change in address in RC etc will become faceless services.
The TOI report, ‘Six months on, transport dept yet to adopt contactless services’, published on September 28 had detailed the consequences of the delay in implementing Aadhaar authentication-based contactless services.
“Citizens will be able to avail these services from the comfort of their homes and without a single visit to the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). All 30 transport services would become faceless without any requirement of the applicant’s presence at the RTOs” said Rajender Kumar Kataria, principal secretary of the transport department.
Kataria said CM is very keen on making these services contactless. “He will launch it on November 1. This will reduce crowding at RTO offices during pandemic as well as paperwork” he said.
There were several complaints of corruption, red-tapism, presence of touts at RTOs and crowding during Covid. The department’s move to go contactless is expected to benefit lakhs of motorists across the state.
