Karnataka: 3 notorious criminals from Kerala who fired at police held | Mangaluru News – Times of India


MANGALURU: Police personnel posted on duty at the Karnataka-Kerala border had a providential escape, after five notorious criminals opened fire on them, while the accused were being intercepted near the Salethur-Kodange check-post on the border, in the early hours of Friday.
However, Dakshina Kannada district police managed to arrest three of the accused and seized a car, a gun, 13 live rounds, ganja, MDMA, LSD and a dagger from them.
The arrested accused are Mohammed Wakeer, Abdul Lathif and Ashfaq, residents of Kasaragod district in Kerala.
All the arrested accused and their absconding accomplices are aged below 30, and have more than a dozen serious cases registered against each of them.
Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police B M Laxmi Prasad said the gang members belong to the ā€˜Dā€™ gang, and are active in Kasaragod, Paivalike and Miyapadavu in Kerala.
Recently, a video of the gang, where they were using firearms, had gone viral on social media.
Based on the video, a case was registered at Manjeshwar police station in Kerala.
On Thursday night, the gang opened fire at a bar in Uppala, and they later fired at the police in Miyapadavu, when they tried to arrest them, after which the accused fled from the spot.
Kerala Police had informed their counterparts in Dakshina Kannada, about the gang moving towards Vittal, and the check-post there was alerted.
Around 4am, the gang members came in a hatchback car, and were directed to stop near the check-post, after which one of the occupants in the vehicle fired in the air, to scare the police.
They rammed the vehicle into the barricade, and their run ended when the car stopped a few metres away, after getting stuck in a pile of mud on the roadside.
The occupants then fled from the spot. Three of them ran towards a hillock and two others on the road.
The police present at the spot managed to arrest three of the accused, while two of them escaped.
Sources investigating the case added that the gang was using guns made in the UK and USA.
They had also consumed LSD, MDMA and ganja.
