BELAGAVI: About 12 journalists in Belagavi have tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday. The health department had conducted tests on 70 scribes who had enrolled to cover bypoll counting.
According to the press release issued by the information department 11 reporters working in various media houses are asymptomatic and the health department has advised home quarantine. One scribe has mild symptoms and he is also isolated at home. The health department that is monitoring the health of the infected journalists will also be providing medication if necessary. The information department added that a watchman of the department was also tested positive. He also underwent testing along with the reporters.
The health department had carried out testing as the election commission had mandated RT-PCR negative report to enter the counting centres. The counting for the recently concluded Belagavi lok sabha bypoll is slated to be held on May 2. It may be noted that over 100 journalists across the country succumbed to the infection.
