The accused are Nagendra, 30, a flower decorator from Ittamadu and his associates Parthiban, 25, of KG Halli, Nayaz Pasha, 35, from Mysuru Road, Syed Siddiq, 30, of Kengeri, Suresh, 33, of Seshadripuram, Sathish, 30, of DJ Halli, Hanumegowda, 28, and Dharmaraj, 28, both residents of Bhadravati, Imran Pasha, 32, of Doddamavalli and Hemanth, 22, of Chikkallasandra.
Police have seized gold ornaments, mobile phones and other valuables worth Rs 5 lakh from them.
The miscreants entered the house of Prashanth Kumar HR, head constable and official driver for the additional director general of police (ADGP), CID-Karnataka, in Byregowda Layout at 2.10pm when his wife Deepa H was alone.
“Nagendra was known to Kumar’s family as he works with the latter’s relative as flower decorator. Nagendra had done decoration work for Kumar’s family function which was held recently. He suspected there were loads of cash and gold at Kumar’s residence and hence, planned the theft,” an officer said.
Deepa told police that Nagendra knocked on the door, claiming Kumar sent him to bring some documents. She initially declined to open, but he convinced her. The gang barged into the house soon after she opened the door. While one of them held a knife at her neck, others entered the bedroom and decamped with valuables.
“The accused have criminal antecedents and were involved in cases reported in Andhra Pradesh too. They are presently lodged at the Central Prison (Parappana Agrahara),” said Sanjeev M Patil, deputy commissioner of police (west).
A special team headed by UD Krishnakumar, assistant commissioner of police (Kengeri sub-division), cracked the case.
