hiremath: Miscreants clone former Belagavi DC’s Facebook page, ask money from his friends | Hubballi News – Times of India

BELAGAVI: Frauds have allegedly cloned the Facebook account of former Belagavi deputy commissioner MG Hiremath and used the account to send messages to people on his friend’s list, asking for money.
In recent times, the accounts of government officials have been targeted by hackers.
In the MG Hiremath case, screenshots have gone viral in which the hackers who posed as the former deputy commissioner asked for Rs 5,000 to be transferred. They also asked the receiver of the message if the person had PhonePe to transfer the sum.
A social media account of the registrar of Rani Chennamma University, Basavaraj P, was also hacked and the frauds behaved in a similar manner. Hiremath was unavailable for comment. Deputy commissioner of police Vikram Ampte said he had come to know in the morning about the fraud after Hiremath told him about it. “I had gone to his office and blocked the account. We have made campaigns on this. If anybody faces this kind of issue, they must alert police.”
