MANGALURU: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar on Friday said the party is ready to produce all documents related to the corruption in Covid-19 purchases by BS Yediyurappa government if a judicial probe led by a sitting judge is initiated.
He said, “Congress has proof for all allegations and let BJP leaders hang me or bookcases against me if the allegations made by us are proven baseless”.
He told reporters in Mangaluru that his party is ready to furnish all documents related to the corruption in medical equipment purchases for Covid-19 control if a judicial probe by a sitting judge is initiated.
“The BJP-led government has failed utterly in controlling the pandemic. The government mired in corruption. It has already appeared in various media reports that the government has looted more than Rs 2,000 crore while spending Rs 4,000 crore for Covid-19 related purchases. If this Rs 2,000 crore corruption charges against the BJP government is baseless, let them hang me and book a case against me. We have proof of all allegations. They have been looting money in the name of Covid-19. We have asked them to furnish the details of the purchases made, but they are not providing it. Chief minister B S Yediyurappa has said that the government is transparent and not convening the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee,” Shivakumar said.
Demanding the government to clarify the rates fixed by the central government for the purchase of various equipment and what was the amount actually paid during purchases, Shivakumar said, ventilators that cost just Rs four lakh were purchased at the rate of Rs 18 lakh.
Meanwhile, sanitisers worth Rs 100 were bought at the rate of Rs 600 per unit, he said, adding, “If I am talking wrong, you can hang me, you can file a defamation case on me. I am speaking with the support of government orders”.
On a legal notice issued by the BJP for making allegations, Shivakumar said, “We are ready to answer their legal notice. Let them answer the questions we posed”.
