Dubai Kannada forums help repatriate mortal remains of Mangalurean | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The mortal remains of Dilip Kumar,57, a pastry chef working in Dubai, arrived at Mangaluru on Thursday. Dilip died on January 22, and Karnataka Cultural Foundation (KCF) and International Kannadigas Federation (IKF) helped in organising Dilip’s last journey from Dubai to Mangaluru.
Providing details of the case, Hidayath Addoor, convenor, IKF said, “Dilip has been working in Dubai for the past 15 years in a bakery, and just before the Covid-19 pandemic, he joined a new company. Hailing from a poor family, he was looking after his family, including one of his sisters who had to undergo dialysis regularly. Eight months ago, he suffered a brain stroke, and was in a coma. In the meantime, his sister died, probably because he was not able to send money for her treatment,” he said.
“The KCF Santwana team, who got to know about Dilip’s battle for life, started visiting him at the hospital, once a week. They also got in touch with one of his sister’s in Mangaluru, and would make video calls to her, during their hospital visit. Whenever she called out his name, he would respond by opening his eyes for a while, and go back to sleep again. After a long struggle, he was declared dead on Friday,” said Hidayath.
The KCF team then reached out to IKF, and together they worked on completing various formalities, including cancellation of visa. A team, including Chaya from Indian Association, Kareem from KCF, Praveen Shetty, president, Karnataka NRI Forum and officers from the Indian consulate, worked on the case, and the body was flown from UAE to India on Wednesday,” said Hidyath, adding they are considering helping his mother and sister, as well as trying to get the support of local donors.
Thanking the organisations for all the help extended, the family that performed the funeral rites early during the day, said that they never expected that they would be able to see Dilip for one last time, in less than a week after his death.
