Double mutant covid in Karnataka: 20 cases of double mutant variant detected in Karnataka | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: Twenty Covid-19 patients in Karnataka have been found to be infected with B.1.617 double mutant variant, according to Covid-19 bulletin issued on Tuesday.
Speaking to TOI, Nimhans authorities who did the genomic sequencing of the samples said that the samples were collected from clusters in Bengaluru and Kalaburagi. “The genomic sequencing of 20 samples has confirmed the presence of double mutant B.1.617, the new variant of SARS-CoV2 found in India. One of the clusters was from an apartment near Dasarahalli in Bengaluru and the rest were samples sent by Kalaburagi. There was travel history to Maharashtra among some of the positive cases in these clusters,” said researchers involved in the genomic sequencing.
Having conducted 1.7 lakh tests on Tuesday, the state’s daily Covid positivity rate stood at 18.7 %.
The state reported 31,830 fresh cases, the highest single day spike seen since the beginning of the pandemic. Bengaluru reported 17,550 of the new cases.
The total active cases in the state crossed 3 lakh in the state, and in Bengaluru alone it was 2 lakh cases. The State reported 180 Covid fatalities of which 97 were from Bengaluru alone. There were four brought-dead cases.
Across the state, there are 2063 Covid patients in ICUs, including 824 in Bengaluru alone.
