Dharwad man held for selling woman to businessman | Hubballi News – Times of India

DHARWAD: Dharwad police arrested a man for allegedly selling a woman from Dharwad to a businessman in Rajasthan.
Based on a complaint by the victim, the staff of women police station (Dharwad) arrested Dileep Jain at Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
The woman, hailing from Uppin Betageri in Dharwad taluk, had complained that Dileep of Aminabhavi in Dharwad taluk had aquainted her while she was working at a shop near KC Park in Dharwad and had promised her a better job in Bengaluru. Believing his words, she agreed to go with him. Instead of taking her to Bengaluru, Dileep allegedly took her to Ahmedabad and made her work as a domestic help at a businessman’s house.
Dileep allegedly visited her again after a month, and told her that a better job awaits her elsewhere. He took her to Padanpur on Gujarat-Rajasthan border and allegedly sold her for Rs 2 lakh to a businessman.
After realising what has happened, the woman managed to escape from Padanpur and reached Ahmedabad, where she sought the help of the family — where she worked earlier — to reach her village. After reaching her home, the woman filed a complaint.
Acting on the complaint, police inspector Y D Agasimani traced Dilip to Gujarat and arrested him
