Dakshina Kannada to intensify vaccination drive from Friday | Mangaluru News – Times of India


MANGALURU: The health department in Dakshina Kannada district will intensify the Covid-19 vaccination drive by increasing the number of centres from Friday.
The Covid-19 vaccination drive was arranged at 27 session sites on Thursday with a target to reach out to 2,459 beneficiaries from the healthcare sector. However, 1,511 persons (61.4%) received the first shot of Covishield.
The day saw 274 healthcare workers including doctors, nurses and other staff from KS Hegde Medical Academy getting the vaccine. Further, 236 staff from AJ Hospital, 220 from Father Muller Charitable Hospital, 190 from KVG Medical College, Sullia and 154 from KMC Attavar also received the vaccine.
Dr BV Rajesh, reproductive and child health (RCH) officer, Dakshina Kannada, told TOI that the department will intensify the drive from Friday.
“We have planned to carry out the drive at 53 centres including government and private hospitals and medical colleges. The drive will be held at nearly 35-40 public health centres (PHC). We plan to vaccinate 4,585 beneficiaries from the healthcare sector on Friday,” he said.
The district is also gearing up for the second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive. “We will start collecting the data of frontline workers from police, revenue and other departments and civic workers, who will be vaccinated in the next phase. Data will be updated online till January 25 and the drive can be started only after we get directions from the government,” he added.
After recording a poor turnout initially, the district achieved 62% of the target on Wednesday. The district had planned to vaccinate 1,097 people and 681 people took the shot on Wednesday. On Tuesday, 58% of the target was achieved.
