Dakshina Kannada: Covid -ve report mandatory for passengers from Kerala | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: In the backdrop of spread of Covid-19 in Kerala, Dakshina Kannada district administration has made RT-PCR negative certificate mandatory for all passengers from the neighbouring state from Monday.
People from Kerala will not be allowed to enter Dakshina Kannada if they do not have a valid RT-PCR negative report obtained within 72 hours prior to their entry. Deputy commissioner KV Rajendra said that the health department will conduct random Covid-19 tests on passengers from Kerala at interstate borders.
“Everyday more than two lakh people commute between Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod districts through rail, road and waterways and it is a matter of concern since Kerala has been reporting a spike in Covid-19 cases. Hence, daily commuters from both the states will have to furnish the Covid-19 negative reports once in 15 days from Monday,” the DC said.
To implement the new guidelines, the district administration will deploy police and health department staff at 14 interstate border entry points. Meanwhile, the district administration also may curtail the movement at some entry points if necessary, he said.
“Institutions, employers and business establishments will be booked under the Epidemic Diseases Act and NDMA Act if five employees in their firm test positive for the virus. All employers should ensure that their employees, who commute between two states, get themselves tested for Covid-19 once in 15 days. Meanwhile, hospitals should also make attendants of patients from Kerala undergo tests for Covid-19,” the DC said.
