The decision comes a day after the Centre issued fresh guidelines to reduce the cost of Covid-19 tests in Delhi by 50 per cent.

As per the decision of the task force, a government hospital-referred patient will be charged Rs 5,200 per day if admitted to the general ward. Charges will be Rs 7,500 per day if there is a need for oxygen support.

Hospitals have been told to reserve 50 per cent of their beds for treating Covid patients. Besides that, they have been advised to follow the treatment protocols as per the Central government guidelines. A group of doctors will advise the treatment through tele medicine.
Cost for private patients
The task force, sources said, discussed capping the cost of treatment for patients who go directly to private hospital, without government hospital reference. Later, it was decided to defer the decision and take the subject to the Cabinet to fix the ceiling on the treatment cost. The task force is presently studying different treatment costs fixed by Maharashtra, Gujarat and other State governments. Managements of private hospitals too have made a submission before the task force suggesting a price for treatment.
