covid: Expert panel to decide on easing curbs: Karnataka CM Basavraj Bommai | Bengaluru News – Times of India

Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said the state’s expert committee will meet after Dasara and take a decision on relaxing Covid-induced restrictions in border areas of Karnataka.
The restrictions were imposed to curb spillover infections from Maharashtra and Kerala, which were seeing a huge surge in positive cases.
Bommai told reporters in Mangaluru on Wednesday that experts are keeping an eye on the situation in Kerala and Maharashtra as well as the vaccination rate in border areas. An appropriate decision will be taken after thoroughly assessing the situation. He said a decision on reopening schools for primary sections will also be taken at the meeting.
On vaccinating children between two and 18 years of age against Covid, Bommai said once approvals are obtained, the drive will begin as per guidelines. He said he was pleased with the vaccination rate in the state.
To a query on D Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru City South MLA, requesting the CM to withdraw cases registered against people in Karnataka for violating Covid-19 norms considering the social and economic issues they have been facing, the CM said that he will consider the request.
