Covid-19: Dakshina Kannada’s death tally crosses 300 mark | Mangaluru News – Times of India


MANGALURU/UDUPI: The erstwhile Undivided Dakshina Kannada region has reported 480 fresh positive cases of Covid-19 and seven deaths on Friday.
While Dakshina Kannada (DK) reported 202 fresh cases and five fatalities, Udupi recorded 278 new cases and two deaths. With this, DK’s Covid-19 tally increased to 9,914 and the total number of deaths increased to 301. Out of five deaths reported in DK, four patients were also suffering from various comorbidities.
While the district has 2,420 active cases as on date, the day also saw 64 people discharging from hospitals and home isolation after being treated for the disease. As many as 7,193 persons were discharged in the district so far. Out of 202 cases of DK, 139 were reported from Mangaluru taluk followed by 35 from Bantwal, 11 from Puttur, three from Sullia and four from Belthangady taluks. While 111 fresh cases were asymptomatic, symptoms of Covid-19 were found in 91 persons. While 41 have contracted the virus through contacts, 81 have Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and nine have Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). Meanwhile, the source of infection in 69 cases is under investigation.
Out of 278 fresh cases reported in Udupi, 193 are asymptomatic and 89 have no specific contact history. The total number of cases in Udupi has increased to 9,668 which include 2,729 active cases. While 365 persons were discharged after the treatment from hospitals and home isolation on Friday, the total number of discharges in the district so far is 6,857. So far, 82 patients were died in Udupi due to Coronavirus.
