Couple hit for sharing order on women’s property rights in Bengaluru | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: A hotelier and his wife were attacked last week in Jayanagar after he reportedly shared a news clip related to a recent Supreme Court judgment on providing equal rights to daughters in ancestral property.
According to police, Shashikala M, 37, and her husband Muttu, 40, from JP Nagar 5th Phase, were attacked allegedly by her nephews on Wednesday. Police have registered a case against Shashikala’s nephews Vaishak, Vaibhav, Vaishnav and Varun and launched efforts to nab them.
Nephews asked couple not to seek share in property
Police said Muttu started a hotel, Pongal, in Jayanagar 9th Block three years ago. On Wednesday, Muttu shared a news clip about the SC judgment on a family WhatsApp group. A few minutes later, Shashikala said her elder brother Dhanaraj’s sons Vaishak and Vaishnav replied to that post that they would stab Muttu to death.
“I, my husband and our employee Viji were cleaning the hotel at 10.45pm when four nephews — Vaishak, Vaishnav and their brother Vaibhav, and Varun, son of another brother Mohan — came on two bikes. They hit me and my husband with logs and hands. They kicked me, and I collapsed,” Shashikala alleged.
“The attackers said they would eliminate us if we shared such news on social media and made efforts to seek share in their property,” she said.
Police have registered a case under IPC sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 354 (criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against the four persons.
