By declaring elections, you are playing with the lives of the common man: HD Kumaraswamy | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: Former Karnataka chief minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Monday targeted the state government and the Election Commission “for playing with the lives” of the people by declaring bypolls and elections to the local bodies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking in Bidadi, wherein Kumaraswamy is campaigning for the Ramanagara local bodies election, the former CM said that nowhere in the election rallies can social distance be maintained or mask rules can be strictly enforced.
“Yesterday I went to Basavakalyana for a campaign. At every village there are people who remove their masks to come and click pictures and selfies. Here, in Ramanagara, look around and there is no one following the social distancing norms. Forget educating the common man, the government and Election Commission must realise the consequences of their actions by declaring elections. Soon after this bypoll, there will be ZP and TP elections. Where will this end?” he said.
Kumaraswamy said the elected representatives and leaders of political parties are also playing with their own lives and that it was going to result in a dire situation.
“When you allow such rallies and elections to take place and then implement night curfews, what is the sum total of your actions? Whose lives are you playing with?” he asked.
Kumaraswamy said the government health machinery was almost reaching its capacity, with lack of hospital beds for Covid patients in Bengaluru and nowhere to go.
“With everybody worried more about the bypolls, who is going to take care of the people?” he asked.
