bommai: Siddaramaiah was behind campaign against DK Shivakumar: Karnataka CM | Mysuru News – Times of India

HAVERI: The Hangal bypoll campaign began in right earnest on Sunday with chief minister Basavaraj Bommai accusing opposition leader Siddaramaiah of starting a whisper campaign against state Congress president DK Shivakumar.
He claimed: “While Shivakumar started a campaign to send Siddaramaiah to national politics, the latter started a whisper campaign to strengthen his position in the state.”
This issue led to a microphone fiasco involving party media coordinator Saleem and former MP VS Ugrappa accusing the KPCC president of graft. “There’s no need for an outside force to destroy Congress. It will be destroyed by Congressmen,” said Bommai at the rally.
He targeted Siddaramaiah for being a Benz car ‘giraki (man who wants the comfort of a Benz car) and said he cannot provide justice to the people of Hangal. “The Congress, last month, came by bullock-cart and bicycle. When they came by bicycle, I told Siddaramaiah you are used to the comfort of Benz cars and this is just misleading people. The next day, Siddaramaiah proved me right and arrived in a Benz car,” said Bommai.
He said that during the bullock-cart protest, while the reins were with Siddaramaiah, the stick was with Shivakumar. “When they tried to beat the bullocks, they were startled and jumped in alarm and Congress MLAs fell on their backs. That’s happening to Congress in the state,” he said. Earlier, Bommai accused Congress of being ‘Gangotri of corruption’.
Siddaramaiah, also campaigning in Hangal, continued to attack RSS and BJP. He alleged an RSS-backed educational institution, Chanakya University, was allotted land worth Rs 1,000 crore at Rs 150 crore. “ Bommai is trying to please Keshava Krupa (RSS headquarters in Bengaluru),” he claimed.
