BMRCI doctors, nurses protest to seek health cover | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: Doctors, nurses and other staff members of the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMRCI), who have been attending to Covid-19 patients, protested on the campus on Thursday, demanding health cover and other benefits.
Clad in PPE suits, they said the government had provided facilities to employees of the health and family welfare department, but had failed to extend the same to staffers of the medical education department.
“We are also frontline workers, serving tirelessly while leaving our families behind. We don’t even have a health card,” said Santosh Kumar B, president of the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute Permanent Staff Nurses Association.
“We should be covered under the cashless health scheme Jyothi Sanjeevini,” he added. Recently, the government increased salaries of medical staff. The same was not done for health workers from the medical education department.
“We will work wearing black bands as a mark of protest until the government fulfils our demands,” he said.
