Bengaluru: Sir MV railway terminal may open by March 15 | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: After several delays, Sir M Visvesvaraya railway terminal at Byappanahalli is expected to be operational by March 15.
Bengaluru divisional railway manager Ashok Kumar Verma said work on the terminal is almost ready.
“We are waiting for a date from the Prime Minister’s Office and it will be operational before March 15,” he said.
This will be the country’s first centralised AC railway station (concourse).
“Of the seven platforms at SMV, five are ready and the other two will be in two-three months. We are planning to shift two-three trains to the station in the beginning, and other trains will be shifted or newly introduced in a phased manner,” he added.
SMV terminal’s façade, designed on the lines of Kempegowda International Airport, also promises airport-like facilities to passengers.
Responding to poor accessibility to the station, Verma said: “The rail overbridge which will connect SMV and Swami Vivekananda Metro station on Old Madras Road will be ready by June. BBMP is also planning a four-lane road from the terminal to Old Madras Road.”
