BENGALURU: A PhD student in his late 20s is suspected to have died by suicide after consuming a chemical substance in his hostel room at IISc on Sunday.
The youth, who is from Kolkata, had been staying in the hostel for the last three years, sources said.
“His friends and classmates said he was facing some health-related issues and was often visiting doctors at Nimhans. He was found dead inside the room and the incident came to light when his hostelmates accompanied by security personnel broke open the door after getting no response from inside. He left behind a suicide note saying he was depressed in life. Police shifted the body to MS Ramaiah hospital for postmortem. The body was handed over to his parents on Monday,” sources further added.
Police have also sent the student’s viscera samples to the forensic science laboratory.
“The student was pursuing PhD from the department of organic chemistry. We express our condolences to the family and friends of the student.
