Bengaluru: Jeevaraj Alva’s son, four others get bail in drugs case | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: A special court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 on Friday granted bail to event manager Viren Khanna, former minister Jeevaraj Alva’s son Aditya and three others arrested in a drug-peddling case with alleged Sandalwood links.
Barring Alva, the others were nabbed by Central Crime Branch sleuths in September last year. They have spent more than 150 days in prison. Alva, on the other hand, was caught on January 11. Suspended RTO employee Ravishankar, Aditya Agarwal and Rahul Thonse were the other accused who got bail. Advocate Hashmath Pasha, appearing for Khanna, Agarwal and Thonse, argued that police hadn’t filed a chargesheet in the case and most part of their investigation is complete. “Evidence collected by police relates to an old case registered in Banaswadi in 2018. The HC granted bail to the accused in that. There is no need for them to stay on in jail in the present case registered by CCB in September 2020,” Pasha said.
Similarly, Mayank Jain, appearing for Alva, contended there was no evidence against his client. “Drugs recovered from Alva’s farmhouse during a CCB raid were planted by police itself. Parties were organised at the farmhouse by different persons on a lease basis and it is wrong to say Alva indulged in drug peddling during those parties,” Jain argued.
