Bengaluru: Half-day leave for pourakarmikas to get dose | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: With less than 3% of frontline workers having taken the Covid-19 vaccine, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has sought to increase coverage by incentivising pourakarmikas by extending half-a-day’s leave for those who take the dose.
In an order issued on Thursday, BBMP said pourakarmikas, supervisors, autotipper and compactor drivers and their assistants should go to their nearest PHC after their second mustering for the day at 10.30am to get the shot.
The rest of the day will be considered as leave with pay.
“We are trying to ensure all pourakarmikas get the jab but their hesitancy is worrisome,” said a senior BBMP official. Pourakarmikas were worried they might have to go back to work after getting inoculated, prompting the rule change. Workers will be screened before being administered the vaccine, the official said. There are 18,000 pourakarmikas in the city and only 2,500 of them have been vaccinated, so far.
