Bengaluru Covid-19 Cases: 1,000 deaths in 11 days


It took just 11 days for covid to claim 1,000 people in Bengaluru as the infections and deaths continued to rise at an alarming rate. Bengaluru became the fifth city in the country to have more than 6,000 deaths after Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Thane. On the other hand, the active cases in the City reached an all time high of 2.06 lakh thereby making us the first city in the country to have such a high active cases. As for Karnataka, the state is now inching towards 15,000-mark in covid deaths (14,807 on Tuesday) and 3.01 lakh active cases.

Experts said that the high active cases was a worrying factor as it was straining the health infrastructure with hardly any beds available in the Bengaluru City. A few experts say that the with the higher number of active cases, the number of mutations would also rise.

In BBMP zone, Bengaluru South was adding the maximum number of cases by accounting 16 per cent of the cases in the last 10 days followed by East-15 per cent, Bommanahalli-14 per cent, West and Mahadevapura-13 per cent each, RR Nagar and outside Bengaluru-9 per cent, Yelahanka-8 per cent and Dasarahalli-3 per cent. The positivity rate was also highest in the south at 19.3 per cent, followed by RR Nagar-19 per cent, Dasarahalli-17.7 per cent, East-17.4 per cent, Bommanahalli-15.5 per cent, Yelahanka-15 and West-13.9 per cent.

The top 10 wards in the City reporting the highest covid cases in the last 10 days are Shantala Nagar, Bellandur, Horamavu, RR Nagar, HSR Layout, Arakere, Kempegowda Nagar, Varthur, Hagadur and New Thippasandra. The lowest cases (52-91 were reported from Muneshwara Nagar, JJ Nagar, Lakshmi Devi Nagar, Kempapura Agrahara, Rayapuram, DJ Halli, Padarayanapura and Chalavadipalya.

Of 198 wards, 190 have more than 100 cases. The recovery rate in the city has dipped to 70.37 per cent. The City’s overall positivity rate is 11.66 per cent while the active rate is 28.75 per cent and case fatality rate is 0.55 per cent.

31,830 cases in Karnataka

On Tuesday, Karnataka added 31,830 fresh cases and 180 deaths including 17,550 cases and 97 deaths in Bengaluru. The covid cases are also seeing a sharp rise in other districts with Mysuru reporting 2,042 and Tumakuru 1,196 cases. ICU admissions have also touched 2,063 of which 265 are in Bengaluru.
