BENGALURU: An international school in Whitefield has reported an outbreak of Covid-19, with 34 persons testing positive.
Thirty-three students and one staffer have been found positive at The International School Bangalore, said Manjunath J, deputy commissioner, Bengaluru Urban. The staff had taken two doses of vaccination.
“The case was first reported when two children from Nagpur complained of fever and Covid-19 like symptoms,” said Manjunath. They were tested and found to be infected. Since it is a boarding school, all students and staff have been tested.
“There are 297 students and 200 staff members and all of them have been tested. We are awaiting results of 174 tests,” he added. The kids are in high school and higher secondary grades. A 24×7 taluk health officer and institution medical officer are attending to the patients.
Meanwhile, the school said they are shifting back to online schooling. “Students have been sent back. There are some international students left who will also travel back to their homes soon. We will switch to online classes,” said a senior management member. He, however, said 18 students have tested positive.
Indus International School had two students, who are siblings, testing positive recently. It was closed for four days and will reopen on Monday for offline classes.
